U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company’s role is to responsibly manufacture and market USSTC brands to adult tobacco consumers in a financially disciplined way, and to provide manufacturing services to PM USA and NuMark for their smokeless products.

We are looking for a Senior Technician who will be responsible for producing test market and prototype products for US Smokeless Tobacco Company by setting up, operating, trouble shooting, and maintaining equipment and/or unit operations within Pilot Plant Operations.

Specific Accountabilities Include:

* Operate equipment/process, perform complex calibrations, size changes or upgrades to equipment utilized for test market or prototype production as needed.
* Understand how different blends, components, and materials are processed through the equipment and be able to take corrective actions as necessary. Must be able to discern if the problem is due to new untried materials or equipment malfunction. Provide input to supervisor and/or product development engineers concerning operation of the equipment to establish and maintain optimum process conditions.
* Modify initial set points to achieve test requests targets with minimal or no input from supervisor. Perform minor repairs to equipment (replace cutting knives, spray nozzle replacement / unclogging, adjust equipment settings, etc.)
* Reviews intermediate and final test results to ensure products are within the specified guidelines. Records unusual test conditions and identify causes related to test results and rejected data. Report results according to established procedures.
* Train less experienced personnel in equipment operation, testing, analysis, reporting procedures, safe work practices and troubleshooting.
* Coordinate activities/tasks of technicians, temporary and / or contract associates or others regarding identification of non-conforming product, process defects, etc.
* Able to do mathematical calculations to mix and measure flavors and ingredients associated with product development test and trials.

Specific Skills

Qualifications Include:

* Associates degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering or related work experience. A Bachelor’s degree is desired but not necessary. Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical/industrial experience required.
* Must have good mechanical aptitude to set up, operate, and adjust equipment used throughout product development operations.
* Must be able to understand complex test plans and operating procedures. Must possess effective communication and technical skills to collaborate with supervision, engineers and other technicians to resolve processing problems and develop new processing capabilities.
* Knowledge of computers, spray cylinders, dryers, coating machines, high pressure impregnators, extruders, and pouch machinery.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications, and other computer based applications such as HMI's and PLC's.
