John Middleton is seeking a QA Associate Scientist to serve as a subject matter expert on all laboratory test methods and procedures. The incumbent works with other laboratory staff to deliver timely, quality test results, maintains laboratory testing equipment and provides skilled technical support. This position requires the incumbent to flex working hours to support all production shifts. This position will serve as backup to the Senior Scientist and all other lab staff.

Specific accountabilities include:

* Assist the Senior Lab Scientist with daily activities and responsibilities to ensure the proper operations and maintenance of the QA Lab.
* Sample and test raw and in-process materials for conformance to specifications and release approved materials to production.
* Review and approve data generated by laboratory staff.
* Perform calibrations, verifications, maintenance, and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment to assure that quality system requirements are met or exceeded.
* Act as backup subject matter expert during facility inspections.
* Initiate and lead out of specification and suspect data investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions where appropriate.
* Manage inventory of laboratory consumables, reagents, and equipment calibration schedules.
* Assist with the design of laboratory experiments for method development, method validation, and production process improvements.
* Conduct peer-to-peer training on new documents, document revisions, and laboratory best practices.
* Comply with Federal, State, and Company regulations including compliance with procedures, quality management system requirements, good laboratory practices, safety rules, and regulatory/environmental requirements.

Specific Skills

Qualifications include:

* A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or closely related field with a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience in an analytical laboratory environment serving quality systems operations. Demonstrated experience with balances, moisture analysis, refractometry, densimetry, colorimetry, and olfactory analysis. Experience operating and maintaining HPLC, GC-FID, and FTIR instrumentation.
* Quality Management System (QMS) experience is preferred
* Strong verbal, written, and computer (including Microsoft Office) skills
* Demonstrated skills in analytical testing, leadership, and the ability to work independently
* Ability to plan, prioritize and execute work activities to ensure completion of sampling and testing requirements
* Willingness and ability to spend the majority of the work day standing, climbing steps, ladder, and the ability to lift samples or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
* Must be willing to work all shifts.
