Altria Client Services’ role is to provide high quality services to the Altria family of companies. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Senior Industrial Hygienist to join our Safety, Health and Environmental department in Richmond, VA. The successful candidate will develop, implement and coordinate programs, policies and procedures to monitor, control and prevent chemical, physical and biological hazards and diseases which may be present in the workplace across the Altria family of companies. Specific accountabilities include:

* Establishing and maintaining the implementation of the Routine Exposure Monitoring Program for the Altria family of companies, to ensure protection of employee health, compliance with laws and regulations and to prevent adverse health events

* Recognizing, evaluating and controlling environmental stressors (chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic) which may cause sickness, impaired health, discomfort and inefficiency among employees

* Monitoring the organization’s health standards in accordance with OSHA, EPA, NRC and state programs

* Performing industrial hygiene, safety and ergonomic evaluations

* Evaluating and analyzing new, existing or modified processes, facilities, materials and chemicals to recommend control measures, to minimize or eliminate disease potential and to ensure regulatory compliance.

* Providing expert knowledge and interpretation of epidemiological studies and diverse chemical, toxicological and biological health data. Assessing environmental risks and establishing appropriate controls to protect employee health.

* Maintaining current working knowledge of Altria manufacturing processes and environmental health trends that could impact operations. Anticipating health problems associated with the process, and developing and directing special prevention programs.

* Establishing and implementing specific industrial hygiene programs to meet objectives of the overall industrial hygiene effort and addressing special areas of concern to either health or regulatory compliance. Making recommendations for changes in the work environment based on interpretations and principles of professional practice.

* Developing, implementing and coordinating programs for educating employees, and auditing and inspecting workplace conditions and work practices to ensure the objectives of the industrial hygiene program are achieved

* Developing and delivering detailed reports on the status of all aspects of the industrial hygiene program for the Sr. Director of Safety, Health & Environmental

Specific Skills Qualifications include:

* A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related engineering field, plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience working in industrial hygiene

* Demonstrated knowledge in occupational safety, ergonomics, toxic and hazardous chemical measurement and control, noise measurement and control, radiation, lasers, ventilation system design; thorough practical knowledge of regulations, laws and consensus standards

* Recognition through board examination as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Additional certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is highly desirable.

* Experience in statistical analysis, organizational/resource planning, program development and verbal and written presentations.

* Demonstrated skills in the use of technology and software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Livelink, Internet/Intranet navigation)

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Well-developed critical thinking and project management skills
