Altria Client Services’ role is to help Altria Group and its operating companies responsibly meet their business goals by providing the high-quality services they require in a financially disciplined way. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Environmental Engineer to join our Environmental & Safety department in Limerick, PA.
The successful candidate will provide direction on the interpretation and implementation of Altria’s environmental policies, develop environmental project scopes and conducting environmental evaluations and serve as primary environmental resource for all aspects of environmental support for John Middleton Company’s manufacturing facilities
Specific accountabilities include: * Conducting specialized environmental work to include: providing direction on projects and evaluations of pollution abatement technologies * Providing technical direction to resolve environmental related productivity issues related to operations * Leading safety and environmental team and provide leadership to environmental sustainability initiatives * Supporting programs administered by Altria Client Service’s Safety, Health & Environmental (ALCS SHE) to include environmental training, assessments, and compliance related inspections for air, water and waste. To ensure strategic objectives are achieved the candidate will work closely with ALCS SHE staff and facility personnel * Conducting work place (facilities, equipment, processes) and job task assessments to identify, evaluate and eliminate or mitigate environmental exposure * Reviewing EPA regulatory and state of the art environmental trends and developing compliance and pollution prevention programs * Assessing all John Middleton Company operations to ensure proper controls, programs, and training is being maintained to prevent environmental incidents and to ensure compliance * Developing, conducting and monitoring employee environmental training and emergency preparedness to control losses and to comply with EPA and ensure standardized and consistent training is being executed throughout all John Middleton Company operations * Conducts trend analysis, environmental incidents and site inspections of operational procedures, facility design, equipment, and materials. Analyzes data according to current regulations and makes appropriate recommendations to prevent new or recurring issues * Maintaining professional knowledge of existing and proposed changes in federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations * Assessing major construction jobs, evaluating contractor environmental pre-plans to ensure they do not introduce unnecessary risks to John Middleton Company or its employees * Maintaining knowledge of operations and environmental engineering trends that could impact the operation and stay informed of hazard control technology to maintain subject matter expertise
Specific Skills Qualifications include: * Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related field. A Master’s degree is preferred * Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in the development and coordination of environmental programs * Specific course completion in environmental management/compliance, pollution prevention, incident investigation and analysis, compliance inspection and audit, hazard control technology, hazardous materials management, emergency planning and response, educational and training methods for environmental management systems, and industrial relations are required * In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and other related regulations or standards * Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and pneumatically operated equipment, and the ability to take sound environmental engineering principles and apply them to "real world" situations. Reading and interpreting engineering drawings is important * Knowledge of manufacturing processes, best practices and operations; and knowledge of statistical analysis in order to assess loss performance and direct efforts to the areas of greatest risk * Strong communication skills including ability to clearly articulate and convey environmental requirements, results, trends, and procedures as well as through clear, concise presentations, program documents, and multimedia training * Proficient computer skills (MS office programs) to develop data and trend analysis, prepare charts and graphs for presentations, and develop multi-media training courses * This position requires climbing ladders and onto platforms or other elevated surfaces to review equipment and layout design
