Altria Group is the parent company of Philip Morris USA, the largest cigarette manufacturer in the United States, as well as U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company and John Middleton – recently acquired companies that offer leading brands in the growing moist smokeless tobacco and machine-made cigar categories.

Philip Morris USA’s role is to responsibly and effectively develop, manufacture and market superior branded cigarettes and smokeless products for adult tobacco consumers. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Co-operative (Co-op) Education Student to join our Manufacturing department in the Richmond, VA area.

Our 10-12 week summer intern program provides students the opportunity to participate in on-the-job training, access to mentors, and educational opportunities. Students may be given the opportunity to work as a part of a cross functional project team and are expected to use project management skills to execute multiple project tasks simultaneously. Students will document project work in a formal report and/or presentation at the conclusion of each term.

As a Manufacturing co-op with Philip Morris USA, the student will have an opportunity to gain “hands-on” experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Upon successful completion of your co-op assignment, you may be considered for permanent employment.

Projects may include:
• performing process/product capability studies
• assisting the team in developing project scope
• scheduling, budgeting and serving as an engineering resource during project start-ups
• checkouts and troubleshooting
• mechanical design and prototyping to develop creative product solutions
• PLC and PC based programming for new equipment and/or investigating alternative process system techniques and applications
Specific Skills To qualify for the co-op program, the student must be in good academic standing at his/her university and enrolled as a rising junior or senior in a relevant undergraduate degree program at the time of the Internship. Work experience related to academic discipline is preferred. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is strongly required.

We are looking for students who possess strong strategic, analytical and creative thinking skills, written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrate leadership and initiative. The incumbents must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products and possess strong oral and written communication skills.

Candidates must pass a drug-screen and background check prior to employment. Pay for an intern position is commensurate based on the student’s academic level in school and experience. A Housing Allowance is available for students who qualify.
